JEWELLERY CARE

Care for your jewellery

Here are a few simple tips on how to keep your jewellery looking as good as the day you got it...

  • Store jewellery in air tight or sealed boxes to minimise tarnishing and exposure to the elements.
  • Remove jewellery before swimming, bathing or showering. Keep away from soap, perfumes, skin products, sunscreen and salt water.
  • Hairspray, cosmetics and perfume can cause damage so always put your jewellery on last to prevent any excessive exposure.
  • Don’t wear delicate jewellery when carrying out any strenuous activities.
  • Extreme sunlight exposure can also cause the colour to fade on certain beads and materials.
  • Elastic cords need a bit of care to ensure that they last. To prevent the cord from breaking, roll the bracelet over your hand, try to not pull on it excessively. Refrain from repetitive stretching and pulling. Weakness in the elastic will occur over time so it is recommended that elastic cord bracelets are restrung every 1-2 years (or more frequently if worn daily).
  • Due to the delicate nature of cord/thread bracelets and necklaces, care should be taken with their wear and maintenance. Macrame fastenings need to be treated with care to prevent any damage through wear.
  • Almost all metal items will tarnish over time. Sterling silver will tarnish very quickly if left out in the open. To prevent/minimise this, stick to the guidance above. Use polishing cloth to maintain shine on metals and don’t leave jewellery lying around in bathrooms or places where it can be exposed to excessive moisture, sunlight, temperatures, or the sticky fingers of little girls and boys!
